Procedure of Maa Kali Puja and Homam
Preparation
The puja begins with sacred purification of the space and materials. The altar is set with a Maa Kali idol or image, kalash, flowers, and red cloth. Devotees or priests wear clean attire, and all samagri including ghee, honey, kumkum, and grains are sanctified for ritual use. Sankalp is taken.
Invocation
The priest invokes Lord Ganesha and the Navagrahas first, followed by the fierce energy of Maa Kali through beej mantras and Vedic chants. The deity is invited to descend into the idol using Nyasa and Dhyanam. This process activates the energy field of the puja space and the devotee.
Offerings
Devotees offer red hibiscus, turmeric, mustard seeds, coconut, rice, sweets, and clothes to Maa Kali. Sacred ahutis (oblations) like ghee, til, honey, and jaggery are offered in the homam fire along with chanting of Kali’s Moola Mantra and beejaksharas. Each offering is made with devotion and intent of protection and transformation.
Aarti & Blessings
The puja concludes with a powerful Aarti to Maa Kali using incense, deepam (lamp), and conch shell sounds. Prasad is distributed and blessings are invoked for health, wealth, protection, and liberation. Devotees meditate and seek guidance from Maa Kali, completing the ritual with inner surrender and external sanctification.
